Privacybeleid
Laatst bijgewerkt: september 2026
2. Welke gegevens
Privacy policy
Last updated: September 2026
Osso respects your privacy. This page explains what data we collect, why, on what legal basis, and what rights you have under the GDPR.
1. Data controller
Osso is a project by Hans Maas, a private individual in Belgium, not a company. Questions about your data, a request to see, correct or delete it, or a postal address for formal correspondence: info.osso.app@gmail.com. We answer within 30 days, as the GDPR requires.
2. What data
Your profile: first and last name, date of birth, gender, photos, job, your bio, your languages and interests, and your lifestyle answers. Your contact details: email address and phone number. Where you live or are looking: your address, postcode and municipality, and — only if you tap “use my location” — your device’s coordinates once, to fill that address in. What you do in the app: your listings, your swipes, your matches, your messages and the photos you send in a conversation, your reports and blocks. Technical: a push token per device if you turn notifications on, and a crash report if the app falls over. If you take a subscription we keep the fact that you have one and until when — never your card details, which you give only to Apple or Google.
3. Why, and on what basis
To match you with places and housemates, make those conversations possible and manage your subscription: performance of the contract. To fight fraud, abuse and fake profiles, and to see where the app is failing: legitimate interest. To verify your email address: security, and where it applies a legal obligation. To send you news about Osso: only if you tick that box yourself when creating your account or in Settings — consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We never sell your data and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
4. How we match you
We work out a match percentage from the lifestyle answers you and the other person both gave — smoking, guests, morning or evening person — and use it to order your deck. Someone offering a place can also set who they are looking for (gender, age range, student or working), and that preference decides whether you are shown that listing. That is the whole of the logic. No automated decision with legal effects is made about you: whether someone likes you is that person’s own decision.
5. Who can read your messages
Your conversations are not end-to-end encrypted. Besides you and your match, a small number of Osso administrators can read messages, and only in conversations that have been reported — solely to investigate that report of abuse or fraud. All such access goes through a separate, password-protected admin console, and every administrator action is logged.
6. Notifications on your phone
If you turn notifications on, we keep a push token per device. To tell you someone has replied, we send the sender’s first name and the first 120 characters of the message to Expo’s push service, which passes them to Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM). Those services are in the United States. So a piece of your conversation leaves your device and the EEA at the moment a notification goes out. If you would rather it did not, turn notifications off in Settings or in your device settings — the rest of the app carries on working.
7. Who we share your data with
Osso runs on Supabase: the database and file storage are in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany). We also use a small number of processors, each for one job. Brevo (France) sends the emails for account verification, password recovery and the waitlist. Expo, and then Apple or Google, delivers push notifications (see point 6). Sentry, storing in Frankfurt, receives a crash report when the app falls over, without your name or your user id. PostHog (EU servers, Frankfurt) counts what happens in the app - how many people sign up, swipe, match, subscribe - under your user ID and without your name, email, messages, address or photos, and without inferring your location from your IP address. Photon by Komoot (Germany) completes addresses as you type and turns your coordinates into an address when you ask it to. DeepL (Germany) receives only the text you tap “translate” on. If you take a subscription, the purchase and its renewal go through Apple or Google, and RevenueCat (United States) tracks whether your subscription is still running; it gets your Osso user id, not your name or your address. The website itself is hosted by Vercel (United States). Expo, RevenueCat and Vercel also process data outside the EEA; that happens on the basis of the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. Beyond this we pass nothing on, and we sell nothing.
8. Your rights
You can access, correct, delete or take your data with you (portability), object to the processing that rests on legitimate interest, and withdraw your consent to news emails at any time. You edit your profile yourself in the app; you delete your account yourself in Settings, and news emails are switched off there too. For a copy of all your data, or for any other request: info.osso.app@gmail.com — we answer within 30 days. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels, contact@apd-gba.be.
9. How long we keep your data
As long as your account exists. If you delete it, we erase everything that identifies you within 30 days: your name, your profile photos, your date of birth, your address, your phone number and your email. Your listings and their photos, your swipes and your push tokens go with them, and you can no longer sign in. Two things stay. First, what you wrote in a conversation, and the photos you sent in it, without your name on them: that conversation is also the other person’s record — dates, prices and keys were agreed in it — and cutting one side out would leave them holding half a conversation. You are no longer reachable there. Second, reports of abuse and any suspension that followed: we keep those until two years after the report, so we can see whether someone comes back. If you want a specific message or photo taken out of a conversation anyway, ask via info.osso.app@gmail.com; we look at it case by case, weighed against the other person’s interest.
10. Age
Osso is for people aged 18 and over only. Your date of birth is asked for when you create your account, and the database refuses a profile for anyone younger. We do not knowingly collect data from minors; if we find out an account belongs to a minor, we delete it.
11. Waitlist
If you join the waitlist on the website, we keep only your email address and, if you give it, your city. We use your email address to tell you when Osso opens, and your city to see where the demand is. We do not sell them and we do not use them for advertising. To stop the form being abused we also keep a hashed version of your IP address, for at most a day, separately from your email. No account is needed, and you can ask to be removed at any time via info.osso.app@gmail.com. We delete the list once Osso is open, or sooner if you ask.
12. Changes to this policy
If what we collect or who we pass it to changes, we update this page and move the date at the top. Where the change is a substantial one, we tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The version in force is always in Settings and on osso-app.be.
This text accurately describes how Osso works today and what it does with your data, but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer.
